Accessing the Building

Due to the age and layout of Lancaster Town Hall, the building does impose some challenges with regards to accessibility. Please see below selection of FAQs which may assist in answering queries regarding accessibility. If you would like any further information, please feel free to get in touch with a member of our team by calling us on 01524 582 226 or emailing townhall@lancaster.gov.uk

Where is the nearest disabled parking, or how to access disabled parking?

There is a disabled parking space on the private road owned by the Town Hall, down the side of the building next to the Memorial Gardens (as you face the Town Hall from George Street, this is on your right).

If attending an event we ask that hirers notify us of the need for this space and ask for confirmation of access needs at point of ticket sale. There are other disabled spaces in Nelson Street car park, but we try and avoid the need for them being used by our patrons. Find out more information regarding alternative disabled parking spaces via the Blue Badge Parking webpage

When attending an event at the Ashton Hall you will need to enter via the Customer Services entrance (on the private road to the side of the Town Hall, opposite the Memorial Gardens), where an events steward shall be waiting to greet you. If you have a non-standard wheelchair, then ramp access to the lift is available and can be arranged. If you are attending an event at Lancaster Town Hall and need assistance with accessing the building, please contact us via townhall@lancaster.gov.uk prior to your event so that we can make the necessary arrangements for you.

Can you be dropped off and picked up in a taxi outside the venue?

Yes. There is a parking bay directly outside the entrance to the Ashton Hall on George Street, and the private side road (opposite the Memorial Gardens) can be used for drop off and pick up.

Is Lancaster Town Hall wheelchair accessible?

Yes. There is a lift in operation from the Customer Services entrance at the side of the building (opposite the Memorial Gardens), access point at lower ground floor, which can be used to access all of the other floors. Corridors and hallways are suitably wide enough for wheelchair access.

Is there a wheelchair accessible toilet?

Yes.

Is there a hearing loop?

Yes.

Are assistance dogs welcome?

Yes, however they need to be clearly marked as assistance dogs as no other dogs are allowed in the building.
