Independent Remuneration Panel Member (up to two posts)
The Local Authorities (Members’ Allowances) Regulations 2003 provide for local authorities to establish and maintain an independent remuneration panel to be responsible for the monitoring of the Members’ Allowance Scheme and to make recommendations to the council regarding the scheme.
Lancaster City Council is seeking up to two new members for the Independent Remuneration Panel to supplement the current Panel of three members.
Members of the Independent Remuneration Panel must not be an elected member of the authority or a member of any committees of the authority and must also not be disqualified from becoming a member of the authority.
Meetings normally take place no more than two or three times a year remotely using MS Teams or at Lancaster or Morecambe Town Hall, although more frequent meetings may be required when a full review of the scheme is undertaken. Reviews are undertaken every four years, with the next review due in 2026.
The post is on a voluntary permanent basis with entitlement to a small allowance of £300 per annum. The duties of the post may require travelling on occasion. Any travelling expenses will be reimbursed.
If you would like to know more about the appointments, please telephone the council’s Senior Manager, Democratic Support and Elections, Debbie Chambers, on 01524 582057
