People’s Jury on Climate Change - Way of the Roses (Morecambe Revitalisation Project)

Together with the People's Jury, we're revamping a well-loved space near the railway station in Morecambe – and we need your help!  More on this project here.

Make a Bird Box Workshop - Let’s make more places for birds to nest in our green spaces in Lancaster district.

Come and find out about birds and where they nest and make a nest-box. Boxes will be installed in parks and woods locally. We’ll make a map on the Lancaster City Council website so you can see where they are. The session will provide all the materials you need to put together a nest box. The activities are suitable for families, for children 5+. There will be three one-hour public sessions at the Gregson Arts and Community Centre in Lancaster on Saturday 15 March 2025: 11:30am, 13:45pm & 15:15pm.

Please book early, as places are limited [10 per session]. One family booking provides one bird box for you to make. Each bird box construction needs supervision by a parent/guardian. If you want to make more than one box, please book another family ticket.

TOP OF THE LEADERBOARD

Top of the Leaderboard

Lancaster City Council is celebrating after topping a leaderboard for district councils in an assessment of the actions being taken to achieve net zero. Climate Emergency UK created the scorecards by assessing seven areas: buildings and heating; transport; governance and finance; planning; biodiversity; collaboration and engagement, and waste reduction and food.

The district council average is 29% and only four district councils scored over 50%, with Lancaster the only district council to score over 60%.

The full results of the Climate Emergency UK scorecard can be found at councilclimatescorecards.uk. (Published 18 October 2023)

Inhouse ICT (electronic devices and e-waste)

Nearly 5% of global carbon emissions come from the production of electronic devices and e-waste makes up 70% of global toxic waste with only 18% being recycled. As a major employer within the district Lancaster City Council is determined to lead by example in addressing this problem. We have entered into an agreement with the Morecambe based business ICT Reverse under which they collect all our old ICT equipment and take it to their accredited approved authorised treatment facility on the White Lund industrial estate. Every item is assessed and either reused or recycled in compliance with all relevant legal and environmental regulations. In 2023-4 none of our old ICT equipment has been sent to landfill.
