The Canal Quarter
Mixed use regeneration of the 16-acre site
Over recent years the city council has been rethinking proposals to redevelop the area to the east of the core city centre to bring forward a mix of uses to support the city’s ambitions.
Ever since large-scale housing clearance in the mid-20th century, the Canal Quarter has become under-utilised and isolated in terms of its role within the wider city centre. After many decades of false-starts the city council is now taking a more pro-active role in the future of the area.
Our new vision, which has been supported by the community, is for a vibrant, sustainable and active place, integrated with both the city centre and Lancaster Canal and where contemporary development and hidden heritage can combine to create a diverse residential, commercial, cultural, and recreational neighbourhood.
