Take a journey through time with this year’s Heritage Open Days
Local venues are preparing to throw open their doors this month for this year’s Heritage Open Days.
Heritage Open Days is England's largest community led festival of history and culture and every year it brings people together to celebrate their heritage and community.
Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It’s your chance to see hidden places right here on your doorstep and try out new experiences – and it’s all for free.
The theme of this year’s Heritage Open Days which take place from September 6-15 is ‘Routes, Networks and Connections’ celebrating how people and ideas have moved around and come together over the centuries.
Go on a trail of discovery at The Storey, to find out the links between the gardens and the building or hear captivating stories of traveling troupes and touring companies at Lancaster’s Grand Theatre.
Take a tour of the stunning Lancaster Priory on September 14 or experience one of the priory’s Music Festival events (September 11-14). This year, you’ll have the chance to meet artists in their studios at King Street Arts, Luneside Arts and Assembly Arts, or go on a Jukebox journey into the 1950s at Lancaster University Library.
In Morecambe, you can discover the secrets of the railways, whilst in Silverdale you can uncover the mysteries of Jenny Brown’s Point.
With events taking place across Lancaster and around Morecambe Bay, you can journey through history, finding out more about the heritage of this amazing district.
