Hiyacar appointed to run car share club in the Lancaster district
Lancaster City Council is making it easier for people to make the switch to using more sustainable modes of transport and reduce their reliance on privately owned vehicles.
The council has just appointed national car share scheme Hiyacar to manage bookings for its fleet of 11 pool cars, the majority of which are electric.
Using Hiyacar’s innovative technology, these vehicles are also being made available for hire by the public at evenings and weekends, making it easier than ever to only hire a car when needed.
According to the Collaborative Mobility UK (CoMoUK) 2023 Annual Report, in 2023 each car club vehicle in the UK replaced between 14 and 32 private cars and 75% of respondents said they had joined as they didn’t need a car very often.
On average each car club member had reduced their total car mileage by 153 miles per year. Other benefits reported in the survey included 88% of respondents saying they were walking for 20 minutes or more at least once a week, with 48% using a bus or train.
A spokesperson for Hiyacar said: “'We are delighted to be working with Lancaster City Council. This forward-thinking organisation is taking a bold approach, not only utilising Hiyacar’s technology to reduce emissions, optimise vehicle use, lower grey-mileage costs and streamline fleet management, but also offering shared vehicle access to the public during evenings, weekends and public holidays. This makes it easier than ever for residents to access affordable car club options in the area.”
As a promotional offer, the first 100 verified members from the Lancaster district to sign-up to Hiyacar will receive an additional £10 credit within 48 hours. To find out more about Hiyacar and register for an account visit www.hiyacar.co.uk/lancaster.
