D-Day 80

Communities across the Lancaster district will come together to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 6 June 2024.

Events include:

  • Lancaster

Lancaster Priory - from 7.15pm

Concert with Morecambe Band & Beacon Lighting.

Lancaster Priory, Lancaster City Council and Lancaster Castle are delighted to bring this event with Morecambe Band followed by Beacon Lighting at 9.15pm to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Doors and bar from 7.15pm

Unreserved seating £10, U18s half price. Wheelchair spaces £10 plus one personal assistant seat included free of charge. Please contact concerts@lancasterpriory.org for availability.

This concert will run without an interval and last about 1 hour.

  • Morecambe

Outside Morecambe Town Hall 9pm - 9.30pm

Beacon lighting and reading of the International Tribute at 9.15pm

The beacon-lighting will be bookended by nostalgic war-time songs performed by Morecambe-based singer Leigh Rhianon Coggins.

Please note limited seating will be available for the elderly and disabled at this otherwise standing event. Arrival at 8.45pm is recommended.

There will be no car parking available at the front of the Town Hall, so if arriving by car, please use Mathias Street Car Park.

The Town Crier will also deliver the official D-Day 80 Proclamation outside the Town Hall at 8am and again by the Clock Tower at 8.45am.

  • Carnforth

War Memorial Gardens at 8.45pm

Reflective event to remember those who gave their lives and took part in the D-day landings.
There will be nostalgic wartime songs from C&C Entertainments &  ‘Bobby Pin-ups; a D-day Proclamation from the Town Crier; hoisting of the D-Day Flag of Peace and an ‘International Tribute’ given by the Town Mayor, Councillor Elizabeth Jones.

Anyone attending are asked to bring along an empty jam jar, so a tealight can be lit, placed in the jar and positioned in front of the war memorial.
