Council shortlisted for local government awards
Lancaster City Council has been shortlisted in four different categories at this year’s prestigious Local Government Chronicle Awards.
The awards are the Oscars of local government and celebrate the very best projects that councils have engaged in over the previous 12 months.
The finalists in each category have demonstrated their commitment to implementing innovative ideas and the delivery of excellence in public services.
The categories the city council has been nominated in are:
• Digital Impact: Introduction of a new digital reporting system to make it easier for residents and businesses to contact the council, report issues, and conduct transactions
• Net Zero: The Climate Emergency Local Plan Review took a fresh approach to writing planning policy. By engaging more with young people, schools, community groups and being present in the charter market, as well as at national conferences and appearing with Kevin McCloud on Channel 4 to highlight Lancaster’s approach, the plan has people and their aspirations for tackling the climate emergency at its heart.
• Community Involvement and Public/Public Partnership categories (in conjunction with Lancaster University): Planning policy written today shapes our city, coast and countryside decades into the future. Yet the very people who will be inheriting the district are underrepresented in planning consultations and engagement. This project is aimed at addressing the underrepresentation of young people (ages 18-30) in planning processes.
Councillor Phillip Black, leader of Lancaster City Council, said: “These awards recognise the very best in local government and we’re delighted to have been shortlisted.
“As a council our ambition is to deliver first class services and to be shortlisted in four categories is a testament to our desire to continually improve and do our best for the diverse communities we serve.
“Congratulations to all the teams and good luck in the final judging!”
The winners in each category will be announced in June.
