Make life easier with a grant for home adaptations
Lancaster City Council is stepping up its campaign to help local residents with disabilities to remain living independently, warm, and safe in their own home.
With Government funding, the city council’s award winning Home Improvement Agency is keen to hear from residents who might be finding it a struggle to get into and around their home and could benefit from a Disabled Facilities Grant.
Grants are available to people of all ages, whether an owner-occupier, renting privately or a social landlord.
Adaptations to people’s homes can help residents with a variety of disabilities including mental health conditions, physical and learning disabilities, cognitive impairments such as dementia, and progressive conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease. It can also help those suffering from age-related disabilities as well as those with a terminal illness.
Grants are available to fund a wide range of home adaptations, including:
• Adapted Bathrooms, such as level access showers
• Adapted kitchens, including lowering cupboards and worktops
• Improvements to existing heating systems and controls
• Provision of ground floor toilets and specialist toilets
• Improved access to front and rear gardens
• Access to suitable bedroom and lounge areas
• Assistive technology to improve control of heating and lighting and provision of door entry systems
• Equipment such as stairlifts and hoists
• Improved access and safety, for example removing any hazards that exist in the home and widening doors
The council's Home Improvement Agency will help residents through the whole process from initial enquiry to the completion of the work in your home.
