Taking place on Tuesday April 26 from 4pm to 8pm at the college’s Employer Hub, the aim of the event is to help businesses discover the benefits of upskilling their workforce and will include a masterclass from RKMS Consultancy about the PAS2030/35 accreditation.

There will also be the opportunity to talk to members of the city council’s procurement and planning teams to learn about forthcoming development opportunities, local planning regulations, and how to register as a supplier.

The free event will also include:

  • Information and guidance from the Construction Industry Training Board about grants and funding
  • A chance to find out about Lancaster and Morecambe College’s new facilities to support skills shortages and promote sustainability and net-zero practices through existing fully funded training
  • Information on social value/progressive procurement to encourage local wealth building. This will explain how businesses can meet these procurement requirements to take advantage of local tendering opportunities.

There will be networking opportunities throughout the evening, and refreshments will be provided.

Councillor Cary Matthews, the city council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “Research by the Institution of Engineering Technology and Nottingham Trent University estimates that 26 million houses will require retrofitting by 2050 if the UK is to meet its legal obligations to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

“This provides a significant opportunity for local construction companies and the aim of this event is to provide them with the information they need to upskill their workforces to take advantage.”

Wes Johnson, Principal of Lancaster and Morecambe College, added: “Lancaster & Morecambe College is delighted to be hosting such an important event for our local employers.

“Over the past few months the College has been building significant capacity in terms of new specialist resources and staff expertise to support our local businesses maximise the opportunities posed by the green skills agenda.

“The College is committed to upskill the local workforce to ensure our community can benefit from new and emerging sustainable construction and retrofit solutions.”

The event is funded through the DfE Strategic Development Fund (SDF) project.
