The Platform announces reopening date for live performances

The Platform in Morecambe is delighted to be welcoming audiences back to the venue for live performances throughout the summer and beyond.

The first show will be Bootleg Blondie, a tribute to the iconic new wave band, and will take place on Friday June 25, provided that coronavirus restrictions are lifted in line with the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown.

The summer shows include tributes to the likes of Santana, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, The Four Tops and T. Rextasy.  Pop Divas Live! will present a tribute to Little Mix, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Beyonce and Rihanna, all in one night on Wednesday August 25.

Chris Slade, who began his drumming career at the age of 16, playing with the legendary Sir Tom Jones, brings his band, the Chris Slade Timeline, to the venue on Saturday August 7. Throughout his career Slade has played drums for AC/DC, Manfred Mann’s Earthband, Count Basie, Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page, Dave Gilmour and many more, and the band will perform hits by all of them.

Platform favourites The Real Thing return on Friday August 20, with original vocalists Chris Amoo and Dave Smith performing their biggest hits with their five-piece band.

Later in the year will see shows from the likes of legendary Scottish singer Eddi Reader, multi award-winning folk duo Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, Andy Fairweather Low and the Low Riders and champion motorcyclist and TV personality Steve Parrish.

Simon Armstrong, Platform manager, said: “It’s been a very long time since we’ve been able to welcome members of the public through our doors and feel the buzz on show night. We have missed it as much as our audiences have and we cannot wait to be able to enjoy live entertainment once again.

“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make sure the reopening runs as smoothly and safely as possible and, should the Government’s restrictions allow, we will be opening our doors on Friday June 25. The arts have been hit incredibly hard over the last year and we’re sure everyone will want to show their support, so we hope to see you all soon.”

The Platform staff are working hard to be able to reopen as safely as possible. As a result, for the time being, capacity will be capped at 50%, meaning there will be approximately 175 tickets available for each show. This will be revised in line with Government guidelines.

Tickets are available to book online now at www.lancaster.gov.uk/platform. As of Wednesday April 28, the box office staff will be available to take telephone bookings on Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am-3pm. The box office phone line is 01524 582803. Please be aware that you will not be able to purchase or collect tickets in person just yet.
