Tribute paid to former city councillor

Lancaster City Council has paid tribute to a former city councillor, Evelyn Archer, who passed away on Sunday.

Mrs Archer served on the council from 1991-1995 and again from 2003-2011, representing the Poulton ward. She was a member of the city council’s Cabinet and undertook the portfolio for property services and regeneration. She also played a leading part in the campaign to help create Morecambe Town Council.

Above all she was a staunch advocate for her home town of Morecambe and was perhaps most well-known for her tenacity and courage in helping to first save and then preserve the Winter Gardens.

The Mayor of Lancaster, Coun Andrew Kay, said: “Evelyn was a real champion for her home town, its residents and businesses.

“Along with everyone at Lancaster City Council I would like to pay tribute for her work over the years and send my deep condolences to her family.”
