Annual council results

Annual Business Council was held last night, Monday 14 May. This is the meeting at which the council elects its committee chairmen for the new municipal year.

Under the current arrangements, the city council’s leader, Coun Eileen Blamire, was elected by Full Council in May 2015 for a four year period. Therefore, there was no requirement for a cabinet leader election this year.

Coun Blamire chose seven members of Cabinet and allocated the following portfolios: 

Coun Eileen Blamire (Leader): Relationships with other councils, Property, Democratic Services, Legal & HR 
Coun Janice Hanson (Deputy Leader): Economic Regeneration, Planning 
Coun Darren Clifford: Leisure, Culture and Tourism, Climate Change 
Coun Nathan Burns: Skills, ICT, Digital Strategy, Customer Services, Communications 
Coun Andrew Warriner: Housing, Environmental Health 
Coun Brendan Hughes: Community Safety, Clean and Green, Car Parking 
Coun Margaret Pattison: Markets, Voluntary Sector, Older People, Rural Areas 
Coun Anne Whitehead: Community Wealth Building, Finance, Revenues and Benefits, Performance Management 

Also elected were the chairmen of the council's Overview and Scrutiny committees: 

Coun Nigel Goodrich: Overview and Scrutiny 
Coun Dave Brookes: Budget and Performance Panel
