Caton Road flood management scheme - drop-in event

Lancaster City Council is inviting residents and businesses to a drop-in event for people to find out how plans for a flood risk management scheme on Caton Road will benefit people working and living in the area.

Working in partnership with the Environment Agency, the council is preparing a flood risk management scheme for the businesses and communities in the Caton Road and Aldrens Lane areas of Lancaster. 

The proposal is to improve the provision of flood alleviation infrastructure along the Caton Road corridor to a standard that will provide better flood protection to properties on the Caton Road industrial estates from potential damage and disruption caused by flooding. This will further assist with the regeneration and development of Lancaster’s key employment areas. 

An information drop-in event is being held at 315 Gym, Mannin Way, Caton Road, Lancaster on Wednesday 1 August from 3.30 – 8pm. 

If you are a resident, business or organisation, in or around Lancaster, please come along to find out the latest information and progress on the scheme.

At this event you will be able to:-

•       See “initial ideas” of what the scheme may look like
•       Find out how the scheme may affect you
•       Give us your feedback
•       Find out what you can do to reduce the effects of flooding
•       Sign up to the Environment Agency Flood Warning Service

Other organisations will also be represented at the event and available to answer your questions, these include Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council and the Environment Agency.

Coun Janice Hanson, Cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration and planning, said:  “Strengthening the riverside flood defences on Caton Road to protect one of Lancaster’s most important commercial areas as well as communities living in the area has always been regarded as being top priority for the council and Environment Agency.  In delivering such a flood protection scheme for this area, it is important that those affected are kept fully informed and given the opportunity to offer their views along the way.”
