Parish councils shaping their local area
Ellel Parish Council and Nether Wyresdale Parish Council have applied to Lancaster City Council and Wyre Council for the designation of a neighbourhood plan area.
Lancaster City Council and Wyre Council will consult on the application for six weeks until Thursday November 10 before making a decision.
Coun Janice Hanson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Economic Regeneration and Planning at Lancaster City Council said: “Lancaster City Council are pleased that so many of our communities are taking up the opportunity to shape their local area.”
Coun Peter Murphy, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Planning and Economic Development at Wyre Council said: “This is an opportunity for members of the community in Dolphinholme to get involved in their neighbourhood plan, to find out what it could mean for them and to have their say on the application.”
Neighbourhood planning gives communities the chance to decide where new development should be and what it should look like. A plan might include new homes, shops and offices.
A neighbourhood plan must be in line with the council’s Local Plan and is subject to an independent examination and community referendum. If approved, a neighbourhood plan forms part of the council’s Local Plan and it is used in helping to make decisions on planning applications in that area.
Comments on the application can be made to planningpolicy@lancaster.gov.uk or by post to Planning Policy Team, Lancaster City Council, Dalton Square, Lancaster LA1 1PJ no later than 5pm on Thursday November 10.
The application, draft designation map and supporting submission can be viewed on the website.
