Work on Europe's first ever flight tower gets underway at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre

Produced by world class adventure engineers Hangfast, the flight ower, named Gravity, is a multi-level outdoor tower and new epic adventure installation which will see adrenalin enthusiasts invited to test their nerve and leap from the apex ‘The Drop’.  There are various ways of descent including abseil, zip-line or free fall.

Speaking as the impressive nine tonne steel structure was lifted into place, Coun Darren Clifford, Lancaster City Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for tourism and leisure, said:  “Being a UK first, the installation of this magnificent piece of equipment is a significant coup for the Lancaster district.  As an integral part of the £5m regeneration of our Salt Ayre Leisure Centre which is being coordinated by our developer Alliance Leisure, it is anticipated to attract more than 8,000 visitors from far and wide to the centre each year.”

Adventurers who can’t wait to spread their wings can access the series of different challenges from a staircase running up the tower.

The installation, which is anticipated to take four weeks to complete, is the latest development in a £5m regeneration of Lancaster City Council's Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, which last week (WC October 24) saw the opening of phase one with a new XHeight climbing wall, Energy indoor soft play centre and cafe.

Further developments at the popular centre will include a 100-station gym, indoor functional training space, outdoor training area and a dedicated Immersive Spin Studio, which will be the first built in the North of England; all completing in January 2017. The final phase of the development will come in the form of a luxurious Spa facility, filled with relaxation spaces, a selection of treatment rooms, beauty offers and more; completing in Summer 2017.
