Lancaster landmark makes space for creativity
Lancaster City Council created the shared artist studios with 9 private workspaces sharing communal facilities and display space for a small rental fee.
One local artist who has taken residency, Jenny McCabe, a wildlife artist and printmaker, said: “Working in The Storey building allows me to produce my work surrounded by likeminded artists and bring in clients to talk about commissions in a professional environment. I could not progress my artistic career without this affordable stepping stone.”
So far, six artists have taken advantage of the deal but there are still spaces available. The studios are perfect for painters, designers, textiles, crafts and graphic designers. As well as providing a hub for the creative industry, The Storey is home to Lancaster Visitor Information Centre and also plays host to an exciting array of literary performances, workshops, art exhibitions and film, music and theatrical recitals.
