Date set for city and county council by-elections

The date for by-elections for the John O’Gaunt and Carnforth wards of Lancaster City Council, along with the Lancaster East division of Lancashire County Council, has been announced.

Voters will go to the polls on Thursday May 5, the same day as the election of the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner.

Anyone who is interested in standing as a candidate in any of the three by-elections should contact the elections office by email at elections@lancaster.gov.uk or by telephone on 01524 582905.

The closing date for nominations is 4pm on Thursday April 7.

The vacancies have arisen following the recent sad deaths of Councillors Richard Newman-Thompson (John O’Gaunt and Lancaster East) and George Askew (Carnforth and Millhead).

Anyone who is not registered to vote still has time to make sure they are on the electoral register and can do so at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Applications must be made by midnight on Monday 18 April 2016. If you don’t have access to the internet please call the elections helpline on 01524 582905 to have a registration form posted out to you or to register over the phone. You will need your National Insurance number.
