Apprenticeships at Lancaster City Council
Applications are being taken for new apprenticeships at Lancaster City Council.
Three new opportunities are available within the IT, Human Resources and Vehicle Maintenance teams.
They will all lead to a permanent position on successful completion of the apprenticeship.
The successful applicants will continue in the footsteps of dozens of other apprentices who have been through the council’s apprenticeship scheme.
Over the past year alone the city council has trained five apprentices within the Dog Warden, Planning, IT and Human Resources departments.
Jak Lambert from Morecambe started his apprenticeship with the city council last September and works in the admin support section of the Regeneration and Planning service.
While many of his contemporaries decided to take the route of going to university, Jak decided the apprenticeship route was the right one for him.
“I didn’t want to go to university, mainly because I didn’t think it was right for me and I wanted to avoid getting into a huge amount of debt,” Jak explained.
“Going into an apprenticeship seemed ideal because I’m earning while I’m learning and also there’s a guaranteed job at the end of it.
“At the end of the apprenticeship I’ll also have an NVQ in business administration, so it’s a win win for me.”
Apprenticeships provide on the job learning and development where you will have the opportunity to carry out a full time working role whilst achieving a nationally recognised qualification.
Applications for the new positions are open and close on August 4. They are advertised at www.lancaster.gov.uk/jobs.
Coun Eileen Blamire, leader of Lancaster City Council, added: “The city council is eager to provide job opportunities for young people and equip the next generation with the skills we need to serve our communities.
“This is a great opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience alongside a skilled workforce while working towards a recognised qualification.”
The apprenticeship vacancies are available to view on th city council's vacancies page.
