Vintage by the Sea returns!

Vintage by the Sea is returning to Morecambe for the fourth season in September 2016 with a free, family friendly festival that celebrates the brilliance of 20th century design.

With a special focus on the British seaside, Vintage by the Sea brings vibrancy and creativity to Morecambe’s Promenade with vintage music, fashion, vehicles, entertainment and much more.

Expect to see free live music, DJs playing vintage classics, carefully selected street food traders in eye catching vintage vehicles, top quality wandering street performance, free family entertainment and vintage workshops.

There will also be a flypast by a Lancaster Bomber, a Spitfire and a Hurricane as part of an RAF Battle of Britain Memorial, the Routemaster Bus Bar, and a vintage car show will return too.

Hemingway Design’s Vintage Festival team, led by Morecambe-born Wayne Hemingway MBE, Gerardine Hemingway MBE and son Jack Hemingway, are delighted to continue their collaboration with Morecambe based practice Deco Publique and main funders Lancaster City Council and Morecambe Town Council.

Last year’s festival attracted more than 40,000 visitors to the two day event and saw an increased economic impact of just under £1million.

Wayne Hemingway MBE said: “When we started putting on festivals in 2009 our aim was always to create public mass participation events as part of the placemaking of towns. It is truly heart-warming to know that we have created Morecambe's most visited annual event, managed to keep most elements free and to see that the event fills hotels and B&Bs for a 15 mile radius . Research shows that we attract people from all over the UK to see this magnificent bay and spend money with the town's businesses . This fulfills our mantra at HemingwayDesign that design is about improving things that matter in life and Morecambe and British seaside towns matter.”

Coun Darren Clifford, Cabinet member with responsibility for leisure, culture and tourism at Lancaster City Council, said: "This is always a tremendous event for the district, attracting thousands of fans of all things vintage from across the country. It’s a great event for the community, providing a colourful weekend showcasing Morecambe’s greatest attributes and has really helped to establish the town's place on the map as a great place for hosting top events. It’s also great for the local economy and provides a real boost to businesses, with the economic benefit of last year’s festival estimated to be around £1million. All in all it’s a terrific event that has marked benefits not just for Morecambe but the whole district.”
