Could you leave a lasting legacy for Happy Mount Park?
Volunteers with specialist knowledge and expertise are being sought to help take ambitious plans for Morecambe’s Happy Mount Park to the next stage.
A masterplan for the park has been developed which sets out an action plan for the future of the park over the next 20-30 years.
But to bring the masterplan to fruition the park needs help in developing the plans further and to bid for external funding.
Two areas of the masterplan that will be taken forward are those for the Japanese Gardens and formal gardens at the front of the park.
Volunteers are needed with knowledge in heritage/history, Oriental gardens, fundraising and record keeping.
Someone with expertise or knowledge of, or interest in, arboriculture is also needed to conduct a tree survey and work with consultants on a management plan.
Coun David Smith, Cabinet member with responsibility for parks and open spaces, said: "This is an excellent opportunity for people to get involved in the future of the park and leave behind a lasting legacy for future generations.
“We know that many local people have specialist knowledge of particular areas and we want to tap into that expertise.
“Happy Mount Park is visited by tens of thousands of people every year and is one of the resort’s most popular attractions.
“It is a tremendous success and we’re keen to make sure it continues to grow and flourish.”
The masterplan has been developed by a project group which includes leaseholders, bowlers, police, councillors, park users, and the park’s volunteer group.
More information is available in the park's draft masterplan (PDF, 7.4MB).
