Life and Times of Sir Chris Bonington at Lancaster Town Hall
Sir Chris Bonington, Britain's best known mountaineer and one of the most successful expedition leaders in history, is stopping off in Lancaster on tour later this year
He will be presenting his ‘Life and Times’ tour in the Ashton Hall at Lancaster Town Hall on October 20.
Sir Chris began climbing at the age of 16 and has undertaken 19 Himalayan expeditions, including four to Everest. He is renowned for having made many first ascents in the Alps and all the greater ranges of the world.
He was the first mountaineer on the lecture circuit and, this autumn, he will present his “Life and Times”, covering his sixty years spent in the mountains. With original images and raw footage, this is a rare opportunity to hear about some of the greatest climbing adventures of the 20th century.
The Ashton Hall is a particularly apt venue for the show as it's where Sir Chris was installed as Chancellor of Lancaster University in 2005, replacing H.R.H Princess Alexandra.
The evening starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £19/£17 concessions and are available in advance from Lancaster Visitor Information Centre or online at www.lancaster.gov.uk/chrisbonington.
