Lancaster City Council has a legal duty, under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, to safely manage and control any asbestos in the communal areas/common parts of multi-occupied buildings to protect employees, contractors, residents, and the public.
We carry out asbestos surveys in the common parts/communal areas of multi-occupied buildings such as hallways, stairwells, lift shafts, roof spaces, circulation areas, bin stores, and boiler rooms. We regularly inspect items containing asbestos to ensure they are in good condition. If any asbestos items are found to be damaged or in poor condition, they will be repaired or removed safely and carefully.
All asbestos removal work is carried out by qualified and licensed contractors, following strict safety guidelines to prevent any risks to residents or staff.
All our housing & property staff and contractors are trained to identify asbestos and assess its condition to keep everyone safe.
Before major works like roof repairs, or kitchen and bathroom replacements, we carry out an in-depth asbestos survey to make sure nothing harmful is disturbed during the process. If necessary, asbestos will be removed before the work begins.
