Issues with Your Current Property
My Private Rented Property Is Damp, How Can You Help?
Your landlord is responsible for damp caused by any structural defects, lack of damp proofing or inadequate heating systems. Tell your landlord if damp is affecting your health.
IF...you have been unable to resolve the issue with your landlord, you can contact your local council for advice.
IF...you live in the Lancaster district, please click here for further advice or you can call 01524 582257.
IF...you live in a different area, please contact the local authority who you pay your council tax to.
We can only award priority for disrepair if there are 'Band A', 'Category 1' hazards that have been found by Council’s Housing Standards Team that can not be resolved by the landlord.
Usually, in these cases the council’s housing standard’s team will contact Ideal Choice Homes but we can always check with them to ask the above question.
My Council House Is Damp Or Has Outstanding Repairs, How Can You Help?
If your current property has any defects or needs any repairs, you need to report these to Council Housing. You can speak to the repairs team on 01524 582929. We do not award any additional priority, as we will undertake repairs to resolve any issues.
If repairs to your property can not be undertaken whilst you are living in the property, we may ask you to temporarily move out of the property whilst they are carried out. This is called a decant.
This request would come from an Inspector at the Repairs and Maintenance team, and you would not need to contact the Council regarding this.
