Missed collections will normally require a new booking and payment. If your absence was caused by an unforeseen and legitimate emergency, we may allow a one‑time rebooking at no additional cost, subject to our discretion. Please contact us on 01524 582491 if this applies to you. 

If you book a collection and then want to cancel, we can only refund your payment if you give us notice of at least one clear working day.

For example, if your collection is booked for a Thursday, you must contact us by Tuesday at the latest to cancel and qualify for a refund.

No, you cannot choose a specific time for your collection. Collections times depend on item location. Our collection times are as follows:

• Morning slots between 9am and 1pm
• Afternoon slots between 1pm and 5pm

Yes, the Bulky Matters driver and crew member will arrive at the agreed time slot and, with your permission, enter your house and carefully remove the item/s. We will also ask you to sign a form to show that you agree to the items in question being removed. All staff are specially trained to handle your items carefully, and be respectful and courteous whilst in your home. All staff have undergone full enhanced clearances with the Criminal Records Bureau, to give householders that extra reassurance.

Yes, we are committed to ensuring that we always turn up on the agreed date and within the hours specified. In the event of circumstances beyond our control (traffic problems, breakdowns etc) we will contact you and let you know when the collection will be.

The payment is to help cover the costs of the service. Previously all items were collected and then landfilled. No appointments were given and collection could take up to 4 weeks or more. In any case the cost of landfilling is increasing dramatically and because of new legislation the Council would have no longer been able to collect items like T.V.s and monitors in the way it had done in the past.

No, that is not possible.

Carpets and other floor coverings cannot generally be reused or recycled. If you are having a new carpet fitted you should ask your carpet supplier to dispose of the old one for you. Alternatively carpets can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) at Salt Ayre, or Keer Bridge in Carnforth, or you can arrange for Environmental Services to give you a quotation for collecting and disposing of items for you.

Items will be taken to the White Lund Depot where they will be sorted into what is reusable and what can be recycled / reprocessed.

No. Whilst we welcome reusable items, this is a bulky household waste collection service. An item does not have to be reusable or recyclable for us to collect it. As long as it is on the list, and you have named it and paid for it, at the time of making the booking with the council’s customer service centre, then we will collect it whatever its condition and dispose of it for you.

If the item can be resued, you could consider donating it to charity or either giving it away for free or selling on online marketplaces (such as Freegle, Nextdoor or Facebook Marketplace).

You can also take items to Lancashire County Council's Waste and Recycling Centres or Bring Sites in Lancaster and Morecambe accept small items of recycling (including small electricals and textiles). 

If you choose to pay someone to remove your waste, a legitimate waste carrier will always:

• Be registered with the Environment Agency
• Have a waste carrier licence which can be verified on the Environment Agency website
• Provide a waste transfer note for removal of any waste on request (eg following building or garden work)
• Provide details of the site license where the waste is to be disposed
• Be able to provide proof of where it was taken in the form of an official weight ticket which will identify the disposal site
