Views sought on plan to prevent homelessness and rough sleeping
Residents, businesses and organisations are being asked for their views on plans to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping across the Lancaster district over the next five years.
Lancaster City Council is in the process of consulting on its draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Review and draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy.
The Review looks at the current picture in relation to local housing pressures, the experiences of people affected by homelessness, and the challenges facing services.
The Strategy sets out the proposed priorities and actions to help prevent homelessness, and how the council will improve outcomes for people experiencing homelessness and strengthen partnership working.
The proposed priorities are:
• Strengthening prevention and early intervention
• Improving outcomes for people with multiple and complex needs
• Improving access to accommodation and housing pathways
• Strengthening partnership accountability and system leadership
• Improving accessibility, inclusion and customer experience
• Using data, insight and lived experience to drive improvement
Councillor Caroline Jackson, leader of the city council and cabinet member for housing, said: "Everyone deserves a safe, secure place to call home. The review and strategy build on the excellent work we are already doing to prevent homelessness and rough sleeping, ensuring more households can access support earlier and either remain in their existing homes or secure alternative accommodation before reaching crisis point.
“Feedback from local people will give us a greater chance of ensuring it delivers action that prevents homelessness wherever possible and supports people who become homeless by providing accessible and high-quality services.”
