Representatives from both councils have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), an agreement that sets out how they will work together for the benefit of the community.
Under the agreement, both councils have committed to collaborate on shared areas of interest, with a focus on upcoming challenges and opportunities including Eden and Local Government Reform.
Regular steering group meetings will ensure strategic oversight, with objectives and outcomes evolving over time to reflect the changing needs of residents.
Councillor Mandy Bannon, cabinet member with responsibility for Communities, Well-being and Partnerships, said: “We already enjoy an excellent working relationship with Carnforth Town Council but by signing this Memorandum of Understanding we are demonstrating a formal commitment to our partnership.
“By working together, ensuring open dialogue and shared ambition, we can seize new opportunities for our residents and deliver real outcomes to improve their lives.”
Councillor Jim Grisenthwaite, on behalf of Carnforth Town Council, said: “This Memorandum of Understanding marks an important milestone in our commitment to collaborative working.
“By formalising our partnership with Lancaster City Council, we can better address shared priorities and respond to future challenges and opportunities together. Our focus will always be on delivering real benefits for the people of Carnforth and the wider district, and this agreement provides the framework to make that happen.”
The MOU will remain active until 2028, providing a dynamic and flexible foundation for ongoing partnership and progress.
