Celebrate VJ Day at home

Tomorrow (15th August) marks VJ Day, the official end of the Second World War.

Commemorations may have been curtailed due to coronavirus restrictions, but that doesn't mean we can't take the time to remember all those who sacrificed so much.

Small private ceremonies will take place in Morecambe and Lancaster, and there are a number of ways you can also celebrate at home, or outdoors, in a socially distanced way. To find out more visit https://ve-vjday75.gov.uk.

Don't forget that there will be a two minutes' silence at 11am tomorrow as well, which everyone is being encouraged to recognise.

The Mayor of Lancaster, Councillor Malcom Thomas, said: "While our commemorations will be markedly different and scaled-down because of the pandemic, it is important that we continue to remember the sacrifices of those who served.

“Some three months after the end of hostilities in Europe many service people continued to make sacrifices for their country in the Far East.

"VJ Day represents the real end of the Second World War and by commemorating the occasion we are able to demonstrate how their sacrifices are not forgotten."
