Refurbishment works at Williamson Park
Refurbishment works are to take place at the Ashton Memorial and Butterfly House in Williamson Park over the winter period.
As a result access to the Butterfly House will be restricted from November 5 to February 2017, but all the other attractions including the meerkats, small mammals, aviary and mini beasts, will remain open.
Prices have been reduced to £2 for an adult, £1 for a child and £5 for a family ticket to take into account the reduced attractions available.
Work taking place to the Butterfly House includes internal repairs and restoration to the roof of the Grade II listed building.
Internal refurbishments are also taking place to the inner dome of the Grade I Ashton Memorial and it will be closed from November 21 until April 2017.
The park’s annual Christmas concerts have been relocated to The Storey in Lancaster as a result.
Coun Brendan Hughes, Cabinet member with responsibility for parks and open spaces, said: “The city council is custodian of these two great buildings and these works are necessary for their continued use and enjoyment by the public.”
For more information please visit our Williamson Park pages or follow the park on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates on the works.
