Proposed removal / replacement of pedestrian footbridge over Burrow Beck

Important update for residents in the Hala area of Lancaster about the proposed removal / replacement of the pedestrian footbridge on the path between Gressingham Drive and Lentworth Drive.

Having reviewed the feedback to our recent letter, which largely supported its replacement, Lancaster City Council and the Environment Agency have taken the decision to remove the pedestrian footbridge tomorrow (Thursday 17th September) to reduce flood risk to the community.

We are aware how important this pedestrian route is for residents and would like to reassure you that we remain committed to providing a replacement structure.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to replace the footbridge with a new structure straight away and there will be a period of time where an alternative pedestrian route will have to be used.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, particularly to those who are less able or who use this route on a regular basis. Please be assured that we are working as quickly as possible to put a replacement structure in place as soon as we can.

We will able to provide updates on progress but if you have any questions or require any further information please email publicrealm@lancaster.gov.uk or telephone 01524 582000.
