Charter Market
Lancaster's bustling Charter Market can currently be found in the pedestrian area of Market Street, Market Square and Cheapside. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of a traditional outdoor market and the aromas of freshly cooked food as you meander through a variety of stalls selling a wide selection of items.
Situated within walking distance of the city's historic and cultural attractions including Lancaster Castle, several museums, theatres and two main shopping centres, the Charter Market provides the perfect start to planning a great day out in Lancaster.
From local produce to international cuisine, fresh fruit and vegetables to plants and flowers, jewellery and clothing to arts and crafts. There is also a wide variety of unique gifts for all occasions. You're sure to pick up something special at the Charter Market.
Current stalls include a range of international, vegetarian and vegan food, fruit and vegetables, eggs and preserves, mobile and laptop accessories, books and vinyl, pet supplies, free trade and ethnic goods including clothes and jewellery.
Market days
Every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am to 4pm (4.30pm in the summer).
Christmas Openings
The market will be open on its usual days during the Christmas and New Year period with two exceptions:
- Saturday 21st December – Open as normal
- Wednesday 25th December – No Market
- Saturday 28th December – Open as normal
- Wednesday 1st January – No Market
- Saturday 4th January – Open as normal

How to find us
Location: Lancaster City Centre - Market Square, Market Street and Cheapside
By car: Leave the M6 at junction 33 or 34 and follow the signs for Lancaster city centre. There are a number of car parks close by.
By bus: Any bus to Lancaster bus station or Common Garden Street will drop you off just a couple of minutes walk away from the Charter Market.
By train: Lancaster's mainline train station is only a five minute walk away. From the station, head straight down the hill leading into the city centre.
