Statement of Community Involvement
1 What is a Statement of Community Involvement and How is it Prepared?
1.1 This Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is part of the Council’s Local Development Framework (its planning policy documents – see Figure 1 opposite). It sets out how the Council will involve the Community in preparing planning policy documents and in processing Planning Applications.
1.2 Appendix 1 describes the Statement of Community Involvement preparation process. This document has been through two rounds of pre-submission consultation, a formal submission consultation and an Independent Examination by a Planning Inspector. It has been amended in line with the Inspector’s Report. This Statement of Community Involvement is divided into seven parts as follows;
- Part 1 is this Introduction;
- Part 2 sets out the context for Community Involvement, including the Districts communities, types of community engagement and key Council strategies;
- Part 3 looks at how the Community will be involved in Development Control;
- Part 4 looks at how the Community will be involved in the preparation of Development Plan Documents;
- Part 5 looks at how the Community will be involved in the preparation of Supplementary Planning Documents;
- Part 6 looks at Parish and Community Plans;
- Part 7 looks at Regeneration Initiatives;
- Part 8 looks at Resources for Community Involvement that the Council has;
- Part 9 looks at Continuous Improvement and how Community Involvement will change over time.
